How it works

The life of a referral, from first call to handoff.

Two sides, one conversation. Here's what each of you sees.

Sending

You have a matter you shouldn't keep.

STEP 1

Find the right colleague

Search the member network by practice area, city and state. Every result is a verified attorney, ranked on fit rather than on who paid.

STEP 2

Read the profile

Practice areas, jurisdictions, firm website and how the attorney describes the work they want. You choose who to approach.

STEP 3

Reach out directly

Message the attorney yourself and send documents alongside the conversation. Nobody sits between you and your colleague.

STEP 4

Agree your terms

You and the receiving attorney paper the referral the way your jurisdictions require. The conversation stays available as a record of what was agreed.

Receiving

A matter arrives that fits your bench.

STEP 1

Set out your practice

List the matter types and jurisdictions you take. Members find you on substance, not on advertising spend.

STEP 2

Get approached by name

Referrals arrive as a direct message from an attorney who chose you, with the context already written down.

STEP 3

Answer quickly

A clean pass costs nothing, and a fast answer is worth a great deal to the colleague waiting on you.

STEP 4

Keep them informed

Report back as the matter moves. Members who keep senders in the loop are the ones who get the next matter.

The fee

The fee is between the two firms.

AttorneyConnect takes no percentage of any legal fee, and membership is free. Nothing about how this network makes money puts it in the middle of a relationship it exists to protect.

Division of fees between lawyers in different firms is governed rule by rule, state by state. Members are responsible for papering each referral to their own jurisdictions' requirements.

What the network takes
Network cut of the fee None
Cost of membership Free
Typical split between firms 25–33%, set by the two firms
Who papers the agreement The two firms, to their jurisdictions
